Geoff’s Blog, all about Hedsor Jazz?
No, not all about, but mostly about. I have been writing about jazz in this blog for almost 20 years, and it does largely concern itself with jazz at the Hedsor Bar, but it has never been exclusive. However, if you want to keep abreast of what is happening jazz wise at Hedsor, it’s a good place to start!
We are entering into the period of Autumn, and some of what has been advertised will not be what will happen, changes happen! “Everything Must Change” is a great song*, but sadly it is true. I will try and keep you informed of all Hedsor Jazz week by week, and do rest assured we do want to maintain the quality product of the jazz at the Hedsor Bar that we have all become used to, so watch this space, and share with others who might be interested in experiencing what we offer.
This Thursday September 21st at Hedsor Jazz we have Stuart Henderson on trumpet alongside Jonathan Lewis on tenor sax, all ably supported by Ken McCarthy on keyboard, Steve Riddle on bass and Mike Jeffries on drums. 8.30 start £10 entry.
A great evening of very brassy jazz was had by all, including tunes like “This I Dig of You” and “Flamingo”. Now who will admit to knowing THAT?
We also had a bonus during the interval break, Nigel Fox and Ingrid played and sang 2 songs associated with September, including Kurt Weill's "September Song".
Don’t forget that you can also listen to jazz once a month on a Tuesday in Marlow, follow the link
https://www.marlowjazz.co.uk/ to read all about that in the forthcoming gigs section.
As you may remember Hedsor Jazz are now getting advice and ideas from our new Vice President, Vasilis Xenopoulos, and it has proven to be very valuable. Some of his insights are going to help us in keeping Hedsor Jazz on track in these changing times. More on that in the future, so do keep your eyes pealed on Jazz from Geoff !
PS. He still thinks we are mad running live jazz every week in an "out of the way" place like Hedsor!! But it does make it very special.
*The Lyrics are below
Everything must change,
Nothing stays the same.
Everyone must change
Nothing stays the same.
The young become the old,
Mysteries do unfold.
'Cause that's the way of time
Nothing and no one goes unchanged.
There are not many things
In life you can be sure of.
Except
Rain comes from the clouds,
And sun lights up the sky,
And humming birds do fly.
Winter turns to spring.
Wounded heart will heal.
Never much too soon
Everything must change
The young become the old,
Mysteries do unfold.
'Cause that's the way of time
Nothing and no one goes unchanged.
There are not many things
In life you can be sure of.
Except
Rain comes from the clouds,
And sun lights up the sky,
And humming birds do fly.
